The day finally arrived!
The shooting of the first professional commercial advertisement of Canigó Climbing. Yes, we are really excited about it, but that’s not all: this advertisement was nothing more and nothing less than the advert that was going to be included in the film Valhalla, Sky of Rock, the masterpiece and incredible adventure starred by Edu Marín with the help of his brother Alex Marín and his father Francisco “Novato” Marín.
The documentary follows the adventures to redpoint Valhalla, the highest roof in the world. In a remote place in China, located in the Great Arch of the Getu Valley, Valhalla’s 9a + numbers can’t leave anyone indifferent: 380 meters of climbing, 14 pitches, 10 of which are completely on the roof and with a difficulty that reaches up to 9a + in the fifth pitch. It is considered the most difficult long route in the world. We could be talking about Edu Marín and his project for hours and hours (we will write a post about it shortly), but today we are here to tell you about the shooting of our advertisement for the film. September 1st: for us September is the new January. New ideas to consolidate, objectives to achieve and purposes to carry out flood our heads. So no better way to start than with the advertisement shooting.
We got to the sector 5 minutes after four in the afternoon: we were in Espero Primavera sector, in Siurana. We parked the car in “El pati” parking lot and there they were, the three dudes that would make this possible. On one side, Iván Torres who works hand to hand with Pau Alonso in the producing of all kind of audiovisual content, documentaries and articles on social media and promote the climbing’s professional visibility. You can check out their work in the website www.woguclimbing.com. And on the other side, the key part of all this work, Sara, the climber that you can see in the advertisement and who makes things easier for Pau and Iván. Sara, or dome_sara, the name she uses in her instagram profile, is a climber who thrilled the Canigó team that was at the shooting. A very nice girl and a climber who talked about climbing with incredible passion and enthusiasm, but the best thing was seeing her do what she likes the most: climbing.
We arrived at the base of the wall they had picked to shoot the advertisement’s scenes and images. Well, on the way to the sector, some images were taken of Sara putting the hangboard into her backpack… #Ad coming up…: The Resurrection: a portable hangboard, very light and versatile that allows you to hang it anywhere and warm up your fingers, hands, and forearms before jumping into the final hold, or at least trying. We looked for a branch to hang the hangboard and Sara hung on to it. She did some extensions, and pull-ups, all under the watchful eye of Pau’s camera who always kept an eye on her, looking for a good shot with the best light… Or at least that’s what Pau said while Sara was hanging.
Sara was getting ready, she put the straps on her harness, put on her climbing shoes and started to climb. At that time, an unbeatable climate had already been created: we were in an idyllic environment such as Siurana, shooting an advertisement for our brand with three wonderful and professional people that were making it possible. Sara began to open the route that Pau would later climb to record Sara climbing for the advertisement. Everything was thought out, the time to shoot, the sector, the routes, the material they would use… I couldn’t stop taking pictures of Sara, watching her climb the immense walls of Siurana, which now seemed small.
You can imagine that the topic of conversation for the afternoon was climbing, it couldn’t be any other. They all had a great passion for climbing and for a job well done. Sara did not take long to open the route for Pau and begin to climb the route that was climbing for the ad. Belayed by Iván, who was carefully watching every step she took. This route had a greater difficulty, something you couldn’t tell while you watched her climb: she had dynamic, smooth movements, an overwhelming security. A priceless spectacle. What couldn’t be recorded, however, was the good vibes, the wisdom in her work but it will surely be reflected in the ad’s final result.
Finally, we would like to thank Iván, Pau and Sara for knowing how to reflect in 30 secs of advertisement all our passion for a job well done and for delivering a product of the highest quality for the climbers’ training.
Last thing is remembering all of you that the Valhalla, Sky of Rock documentary film’s premiere will be the 2nd October in an online format and the movie will be available globally during 48h, until the night of the 4th October. Tickets for the film are already on sale and can be purchased at a price of 8.95€.
Don’t miss out on this documentary adventure, worthy of great success. Congratulations Edu Marín, Alex Marín and Francisco “Novato” Marín and thank you for having made it possible for all of us to see this large-format adventure, and allowing Canigó Climbing to be part of the partner brands.
